"Development of ferrous metallurgy in Central Kazakhstan, the necessity of industrial development in the fields of Zhezkazgan, commissioning mines and factories acute designated the problem of training. In 1961, by order of the Minister of Higher and secondary vocational education of the Kazakh SSR on the basis of evening preparatory courses Karaganda Polytechnic Institute opened the evening technical faculty. So in our region it was the first center of higher education. 100 students was accepted for training in the field of ""Power supply of industry"" and ""Industrial and civil construction"". Prominent scientist, academician of NAS RK, Hero of Socialist Labor, Professor and Rector of KarPI A.Saginov was a founder of faculties.
In 1973, according to the order of the Ministry of Higher Education of the Kazakh SSR was opened full time courses. New specialties was opened, the number of students were growing up. In 1977 Zhezkazgan technical faculty was transformed into a branch The Order of the Red Banner of Labour of Karaganda Polytechnic Institute. Opening a branch was a significant event not only for Zhezkazgan, but for the whole Central Kazakhstan. Local authorities have paid great attention to the university, gave a hand and supported in strengthening the material-technical base and the human resource capacity. New departments were established and invited scientists, professors.
In 1992, a branch of KarPI (according by Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Kazakhstan, № 42 of 01.21.92 ) was transformed into Zhezkazgan Technology Institute."
