Stenographer Grade C	Stenographers in Grade C are typically assigned to higher-level officials and offices. They transcribe speeches, dictations, and important meetings. They may draft confidential and critical documents, ensuring accuracy and discretion. Stenographers in Grade C play a crucial role in maintaining official records at an advanced administrative level.
Stenographer Grade D	Stenographers in Grade D perform similar functions but may be involved in tasks at a lower administrative level. They transcribe spoken words with accuracy, capturing essential information. Grade D Stenographers often assist in managing schedules, maintaining files, and handling administrative duties at a slightly less complex level.

Eligibility

Stenographer Grade C

The candidate must have passed 10+2 (Intermediate) or its equivalent examination from a recognized board or university.

Stenographer Grade D

The candidate must have passed 10+2 (Intermediate) or its equivalent examination from a recognized board or university.

Qualification

Stenographer Grade C

Nationality – Candidate must be a citizen of India

Age Limit – The age of the candidate should be between 18 to 30 years

Skill-Test  - A dictation of 100 words per minute (w.p.m) is required for the Grade C posts

Stenographer Grade D

Nationality – The candidate must be a citizen of India

Age Limit – The age of the candidate should be between 18 to 27 years

Skill-Test – A dictation of 80 words per minute (w.p.m)  is required for the Grade D posts

Syllabus

The syllabus for the Stenographer examination conducted by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) consists of two stages: the Written Examination and the Skill Test in Stenography. Let's break down the syllabus for each stage:

1. Written Examination:

The written examination is an objective type paper that includes the following sections:

1.    General Intelligence & Reasoning:

·         Space Visualization

·         Problem Solving

·         Judgment

·         Decision Making

·         Visual Memory

·         Discriminating Observation

·         Relationship Concepts

·         Figure Classification

·         Arithmetical Number Series

·         Non-Verbal Series

·         Abstract Ideas and Symbols and their Relationships

·         Arithmetical Computation and Other Analytical Functions.

2.    General Awareness:

·         Questions will be aimed at testing the candidate's general awareness of the environment around him/her and its application to society.

·         Current events

·         Experience in their scientific aspect

·         Knowledge of current events

3.    English Language and Comprehension:

·         Vocabulary

·         Grammar

Note:

• The questions in both Objective Type Papers will be set in English and Hindi.

B. Skill Test in Stenography:

The skill test is the second stage and is qualifying in nature. It is mandatory for all candidates. The skill test will be in Stenography and candidates will be given one dictation for 10 minutes in English/Hindi at the speed of 100 words per minute for the post of Stenographer Grade C and 80 words per minute for the post of Stenographer Grade D. The transcription time for English candidates is 40 minutes and for Hindi candidates is 55 minutes.

Note:

• Candidates who qualify in the written examination based on cut-off marks will be called for the skill test.
• The final merit will be prepared based on the candidate's performance in the written examination.

Candidates are advised to go through the official SSC Stenographer notification and syllabus documents for the most accurate and updated information.

• Duration: 2 hours (2 hours and 40 minutes for visually handicapped candidates)

Marking Scheme:

•         Each wrong answer will result in a 0.25 mark deduction.

•         Objective Type Papers will have questions in both English and Hindi.

2. Skill Test in Stenography:

For Stenographer Grade C and D:

• Mode of Test: Skill Test in Stenography
• Language of Skill Test: English/Hindi0
• Dictation Speed:
• For Stenographer Grade C: 100 words per minute
• For Stenographer Grade D: 80 words per minute
• Transcription Time:
• For Stenographer Grade C: 40 minutes (English) / 55 minutes (Hindi)
• For Stenographer Grade D: 50 minutes (English) / 65 minutes (Hindi)

• The Skill Test is qualifying in nature.
• Candidates who meet the cut-off marks in the written exam will be invited to take the Skill Test.
• The final merit will be calculated depending on the candidate's performance in the written test.

• Candidates who qualify in the Skill Test are considered for the final merit list.

• The final merit list is prepared based on the marks obtained in the written examination.
• Only those candidates who qualify in the Skill Test are eligible for inclusion in the final merit list.

Frequency
