The mission of our University is to shape the creative and critical personalities of students and define the directions of development in science and technology. The education offered at our institution is strongly linked with scientific research and the needs of economy and is consistent with standards of the European Higher Education Area. The degrees awarded by Wrocław University of Technology are a symbol of high quality of education, confirmed by the National Accreditation Committee and the Accreditation Committee of Universities of Technology.
By 24th of August 1945 Wroclaw University of Technology was brought into the existence, starting off with four following faculties: Chemistry, Mechanics and Electrotechnics, Civil Engineering and Mining and Metallurgy. The lecture delivered by professor Kazimierz Idaszewski on the 15th of November 1945 symbolically opened the classes for 526 students at this, finally Polish, university. Until the year 1951 Wroclaw University of Technology was only substantially independent part of the community of Wroclaw universities consisting of University of Wroclaw and Wroclaw University of Technology managed at that time by one rector – professor Stanislaw Kulczynski. With the 1st of December 1951 Wroclaw University of Technology has eventually gained its full independence and professor Dionizy Smolenski became its first autonomous rector. At that time Wroclaw University of Technology consisted of seven faculties and 2964 students.
