The Regional University of Cariri - URCA is a university public state headquartered in Crato containing other campuses in the cities of Juazeiro, Iguatu, Barbalha, Campos Sales and Old Mission. The URCA serves a community of approximately 9,000 students from about 91 municipalities in the states of Ceará, Piauí, Pernambuco and Paraíba, distributed among the courses graduation, special programs and graduate broad sense.
Created by State Law No. 11,191 / 86 and approved by Presidential Decree No. 94016, having been officially installed on 7 of March of 1987. Integrates the system Higher Education of the State, linked to the Department of Science and Technology. Has six campuses, three in the municipality of Crato (pepper, San Miguel and San Francisco), two in the municipality of Juazeiro (Crajubar and Pirajá) and one in Santana do Cariri, where the works Paleontology Museum, showcasing one of the most important reserves of fossil from the Cretaceous period.
