The University of Oviedo is a public institution of higher education and research in the Principality of Asturias. With over 400 years of history, it offers a full range of undergraduate degrees adapted to the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) in all branches of knowledge and postgraduate degree programmes in collaboration with national and international universities and more than 250 companies.
The University of Oviedo is the only public institution of higher education in the Principality of Asturias, a region of just over a million inhabitants, with a privileged natural landscape, a rich artistic heritage and excellent road and rail links in the central area of the region, which is home to its major cities. More than 400 years have passed since Fernando de Valdés Salas devised the creation of the University of Oviedo in the XVI century. Today, that self-same University is home to numerous disciplines and degrees and a plural community, spread over different campuses and cities. The University was granted its charter on 21 September 1608.
