The Federal University of Goiás was established on December 14, 1960 with the meeting of five colleges that existed in Goiânia: the Faculty of Law, the School of Pharmacy and Dentistry, the School of Engineering, the Conservatory of Music and the Faculty of Medicine.
However, this victory of Goias society was preceded by a process which required great efforts by teachers and students of the time. In 1959, teachers of five schools that constitute the UFG in its foundation formed the "Standing Committee for the Establishment of the Central University of Brazil", chaired by Professor Colemar Christmas e Silva, then director of Goiania Law School. The purpose of the committee was to formulate a university project creation and delivers it to Congress.
