" The Foundation University of Caxias do Sul (FUCS), Legal Entity of Private Law, was formed in October 1973, replacing the Association University of Caxias do Sul, established in 1966 by the framers of the University of Caxias do Sul: the Diocesan Bishop of Caxias do Sul, Dom Benedito Zorzi; the Mayor Hermes John Webber; and the doctor Virvi Ramos, President of the Cultural and Scientific Association Our Lady of Fatima." On January 10, 1974, the establishment of the first Board of Directors and the Statutes of the University of Caxias do Sul Foundation were published in the Official Gazette of Rio Grande do Sul, and March 18, 1974, the Ministry of Education approved the processes recognition of the Statute of FUCS, now, then, to have a Board of Directors made up of representatives of the Ministry of Education, municipalities in the region, the Chamber of Industry and Caxias do Sul of Commerce, Government of Rio Grande do Sul State, Mitra Diocesan, and the Cultural and Scientific Association Our Lady of Fatima.
