Born in 1967, the statement of the Portuguese Catholic University in society materialized quickly from the prestige of the school, the fruitful discussions of ideas it provides qualified research that develops, opening to internationalization.
"13 October 1967. By Decree Lusitanorum Nobilissima Gens, the Roman Congregation for Catholic Education begins the Portuguese Catholic University.
The first is the Faculty of Philosophy Faculty of Braga already operating in that city since 1947. The following year opens in Lisbon, the Faculty of Theology. 15 July 1971. The state officially recognizes the Portuguese Catholic University as a legal person of public interest with the purpose, among others, to ""teach the higher level of education in parallel with the other Portuguese Universities"" (Decree-Law No. 307 / 71). Decree Humanam Eruditionem canonically establishing the Portuguese Catholic University."
