Technological University of the Andes began operating by popular vote of the people of Abancay on September 23, 1978, under the name of Private University of Apurimac, made official by Law 23852 dated June 7, 1984, during the government of President Fernando Belaunde Terry.
With Law 25266, is extended in the process of organization of the University until June 30, 1994, by Law No.. 26280 of January 5, 1994 the name of Private University of Apurimac is changed TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY OF THE ANDES (UTEA ), name under which it currently is running. Under the Law of Creation, it is a higher education institution, independent, democratic and decentralized, with legal personality under private law and non-profit, gestated by the abanquino people with fundamental and unavoidable to promote sustainable human development end, better conditions of cultural, economic and social life in this region and in the country, tentatively ran until November 6, 1998, the date from which achieves the final operating permit by Resolution no. 025-98-ANR.
