Simon Bolivar University, owes its existence to the creative spirit of Dr. José Consuegra Higgins, social scientist, specializing in economics, former dean of various faculties of economics and former rector of the University of the Atlantic, who with the invaluable support of his wife Dona Ana Consuegra Bolivar, the institution founded October 15, 1972, beginning his academic work on 23 March 1973.
