San Pedro University was created on June 25, 1988, by Law No. 24871, as a nonprofit institution, under Law No. 23733, established by Legislative Decree No. 25969. The Civil Association Promotora San Pedro made by honorable people like Father Lino Dolan, Dr. Lucio Tito Soria, Col. Guillermo Vidal Rivadeneira, the CPC Hoover Chavez Velarde and QF Elena Quinones competitive designate the members of the Organizing Committee which was composed by Dr. Juan Garcia Cribilleros as President, by Dra. Lidia Marina Lizarzaburu de Campos as Academic Vice President and the Ph. D. José Maria Huaman Ruiz Administrative Vice, ending the organization in late 1992.
On November 3, 1993, the National Assembly of Rectors by Resolution No. 648-93-ANR, gives final approval to the university operation and use of their full academic, financial and administrative autonomy on the basis of Art. 18 the Political Constitution of Peru and University Law.Formed the University Assembly, the May 17, 1994, the first Rector, Dr. Jorge Arturo Benites Robles, who ruled for two terms with its Academic Vice-Chancellors Dr. Arnulfo Alfaro and Julio Becerra Becerra Rojas and Mg is chosen. Javier Taipe Azparrent as Administrative Vice Chancellor.San Pedro University since its inception has been playing an important leadership role in the economic, social and cultural development of northern Peru, obtaining proof in 2003, the Faculty of Human Medicine, a process that established it as the first university provinces to get their accreditation in the country and the second nationwide.
