University San Gregorio de Portoviejo, located in the city of Portoviejo, capital of the province of Manabi was established by Legislative Decree # 2000-33, of 14 December 2000 on the structure of the Lay University "Vicente Rocafuerte" of Guayaquil, Portoviejo extension, which became operational from 20 May 1968.
University San Gregorio de Portoviejo bases its existence on the planned and joint action with students, professors, employees, workers, authorities and fundamentalemente with strong support from the community manabita sees in it the aim of providing highly trained professionals with humanistic approach according to the demanding and advanced academic standards of higher education today.
