The resignation of the more than 400 teachers of the Faculty of Medicine of San Fernando of the Greater National University of San Marcos, due to the decision taken at this university to allow third student participation in the governance of the faculty, became in creating the Medical Union of Teachers Cayetano Heredia on 25 July 1961. the National Academy of Medicine kindly offered for the operation of this nascent local institution.
Immediately they commission Medical Education Statute, Economy and Foreign were established, as well as an Executive Committee. It was apparent from these initial steps that the community, both nationally and internationally, supported the idea of forming a new study center for health sciences. The support of public opinion became tangible with the creation of an Economic Board chaired by Mr. Enrique Ayulo Pardo, the same August. Two months after arduous and unremitting work of members of the Union, the Peruvian government, dated September 22, 1961, he formalized the creation of the University of Medical and Biological Sciences, name change after the current one.
