Hermilio Valdizán National University was created on January 11, 1961, as part of a historic civic assembly - called by the Popular Committee for University Community, chaired by Huanuco illustrious Dr. Javier Pulgar Vidal. This assembly was held at the former home of the hero Leoncio Prado Gutiérrez. She was begun a path of struggle for culture and development of the town of Huanuco.
He born as a subsidiary of the Community College Community Center University (now National University of Central Peru), in recognition of Law No. 13827, of January 2, 1962, promulgated in the government of Don Manuel Prado Ugarteche. He started work with the creation of faculties of Education, Natural Resources and Economic Sciences, its first Rector Dr. Javier Pulgar Vidal. Before the cry of the university community and Huanuco population, requesting the autonomy of the Communal University of Huanuco, was negotiated with the Congress conversion to National University; longing finally achieved during the government of Arq. Fernando Belaunde Terry, with the enactment of Law No. 14915 of February 21, 1964, with the National University Hermilio Valdizán is created, named in honor of this illustrious Huanuco, physician, psychiatrist, of national and international prestige.
