The National University of San Antonio Abad of Cusco, like all universities with a capital U is not an end in itself, but a process, a way to receive the inheritance of human knowledge, a means of generating new knowledge and new minds for good of all humanity. The main function of the university remains the training of highly qualified human resources to meet the challenges required by the Regional and National Development, to fulfill this function fully, compared to the explosive growth of technological innovations and the increasingly interdisciplinary nature progress of knowledge a thorough review of the work of our university requires a holistic view.
It was created by Brief Election of Pope Innocent XII given in Rome, St. Mary Major on March 1, 1692, it was authorized to award the degrees of Bachelor, Bachelor, Master and Doctor. The Papal document was ratified by King Carlos II of Spain by royal decree called EXEQUATUR, given in Madrid on June 1, 1692. Thus, the University Library held every March 1 the anniversary of creation. He had as its first Rector Dr. Juan de Cardenas and Céspedes, the first academic degree was conferred Doctor of Theology Don Pedro Oyardo on 30 October 1696.
