The University has legal status granted by Decree No. 611G of the Superior Government of the Province of Tucuman, issued in Docket No. 3841 - CAE 1959. The important task performed culminated with the official recognition of the Saint Thomas Aquinas University of the North -UNSTA- by Decree No. 6257 of the National Executive, the August 6, 1965, during the presidency of Dr. Arturo Umberto Illia. The Convent of Santo Domingo in the city of San Miguel de Tucuman was the foundational area of ​​Saint Thomas Aquinas University of the North. Its genesis is linked to the great cultural flowering of 1949 and the significant activity in the historic cloisters recognized by intellectuals and artists.
