The East of the Republic has always been known for its cultural concerns. The first school founded in Venezuela was created in Cumana in 1515, and since the beginning of the colony educational activities that influenced remarkably in the region and led to the creation of studies at a higher level were developed.
The University of East was created on November 21 in 1958, by Law Decree No. 459 issued by the board of Governors chaired by Dr. Edgard Sanabria, as Minister of Education Dr. Rafael Pizani, under the leadership of its founder Rector Dr. Luis Manuel Peñalver. Office begins on February 12, 1960 in Cumana, the basic courses; in October 1961, the core is installed Monagas with the School of Agricultural Engineering and Petroleum; in the Nucleus of Bolivar began in January 1962 with the School of Medicine and the School of Geology and Mines, in the core of Anzoátegui began on January 9, 1963 with the School of Engineering and Chemistry at the core of Nueva Esparta Basic courses on 21 January 1969. began in its conception the University of East is defined as a system of higher education serving the country with common Venezuelan universities and other targets in the world.
