University of the Armed Forces - ESPE, as part of the System of Higher Education, is an institution with legal personality, administrative autonomy and its own assets, public law, established in the city of Quito and matrix based in the city of Sangolquí; It is governed by the Constitution of the Republic of Ecuador, the Organic Law of Higher Education and its regulations; other related laws; its Statute approved by the Board of Higher Education - CES and internal regulations issued in accordance with the law.
University of the Armed Forces - ESPE has its origin in 1922 when Officer School Engineers later became School of Artillery and Engineers in 1936. Given the importance of engineering globally and in particular was created after the Second world war, changed its name to Engineering School, which opened to civilian students in 1972 to share with them the excellence and quality of training that taught teachers who over the chair were prominent professionals the civil and military spheres. The December 8, 1977 the National Congress resolves to approve the name change to Army Polytechnic School. In compliance with the provisions of the Organic Law on Higher Education, dated June 26, 2013, the University of the Armed Forces is integrated - ESPE, by approving its statute, by the Council of Higher Education.
