The university institutions is fixed in the Statute of the University of Chile, amended in March 2006. This statute defines as a legal entity of public law autonomous, Institution of Higher Education of the public and national character, with legal personality, its own assets and full autonomy. The same document defines the mission of the university; its guiding principles; upper bodies to lead, manage, regulate and plan the University; the academic structure; the organization of studies; the assets of the organization; and the estates that make up the university community.
