The Catholic University of the Most Holy Conception was founded by the Archbishop of Concepción on 10 July 1991. Its creation stems continuing academic work of the former headquarters Talcahuano of Pontifical Catholic University of Chile.
It is a traditional university, autonomous and public law, attached to the Council of Rectors and part of the Chilean Chapter of Catholic Universities, the Association of Regional Universities (AUR) of the Organization of Catholic Universities of Latin America and the Caribbean ( ODUCAL) and the Network of Non-State public universities belonging to the Council of Rectors (G9).
