The Catholic University of La Plata was founded by the then Archbishop of La Plata, Monsignor Dr. Antonio José Plaza, March 7, 1964, while also held the position of president of the National Education Commission of the Argentine Bishops.
The Catholic Church had been traditionally university founder and disseminator of culture in various parts of the world and especially in the Spanish colonies in America. However, the predominance of liberal philosophy in men who staged governments from the Constitution of 1853, in our country, did that university education were heavily monopolized by the state until 1958, which authorizes this level for private and religious institutions.
