The Catholic University Andres Bello is a college of the Society of Jesus. Its foundation was decreed by the Venezuelan Bishops in 1951 and held in Caracas 1953 by the Jesuits, who belongs perpetuity.
The Catholic University of Venezuela was founded on October 24, 1953, under the aegis of a new education law passed by Marcos Perez Jimenez that year. This was the end of a process that began during the government of Antonio Guzman Blanco and to ban the operation of private Catholic universities. His first director, Carlos Guillermo Plaza, urged the government to authorize the name change, which was adopted a year later, on July 7, 1954.
