The Catholic University of Manizales was founded on February 11, 1954 by the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin, under the generalship of Mother Thérèse Augusta and being Provincial Superior of the Province of Medellin, Mother Thérèse des Anges.
University at its inception was named Catholic Women's University with a total of 56 students. Subsequently, the institution Colegio Mayor de Caldas was called until 1978, the year in which the Ministry of Education, with the authorization of ICFES approved the Statutes reform and change of name by the Catholic University of Manizales. In 1982 the University, to comply with the Decree 080 of 1980 of the Ministry of Education changed its name again by the Corporation Catholic University of Manizales.
