UCG has its origins in the School of Communication Monica Herrera, which began operations in Guayaquil in May 1992 as an extension of the School of Communication "Monica Herrera" of Chile. At this school, today Faculty retaining the same name, were added in 1999, the Faculty of Human Ecology, Education and Development and the Faculty of Administration and Political Science.
The educational proposal UCG aims to meet the needs of society in the new paradigms of education for change, aimed at responding to national priorities, committed to research and academic rigor, attentive to the needs of the market and State requirements; aimed at preparing socially responsible, efficient, ethical, caring, creative, technologically updated, with comprehensive and aware of the complex external realities vision professionals.
