The Autonomous University of the Caribbean is a Center of Culture and Science that aims to generate, validate, disseminate and apply knowledge in different areas of knowledge within the framework of the humanistic, universal scientific and technological developments. In 1963 opened the world Industrial Zona Franca de Barranquilla, first in the country; that same year the first teams to allow reception of the television signal are installed in our city; 1968 is placed in service the pipeline Atlantic; in 1974 the bridge over the River Magdalena shortened to half the link opens Santa Marta; in 1986 the doors Barranquilla Metropolitan Stadium was opened and by the same date, would be released regional TV channel, Telecaribe.
