In 1979 by Father Leopoldo Pelaez, a group of Manizales decided to found a university. This idea responded to the university crisis in the world, who had started a decade ago and was manifested in universities like Berkeley in the late 70s, and Manizales had a tragic impact on public universities.
In addition, the inspiration for this idea is also founded on the lack of academic programs in the region, which led many young people to study in Bogota, Medellin, Cali and in foreign countries. The region needed a university with an attractive for young people to stay in it and a generational change that no deal was expected to be achieved. This was a university with an entrepreneurial approach.
