The State University of Health Sciences of Alagoas (UNCISAL) began its history as School of Medical Sciences of Alagoas - ECMAL - in 1968, with the medical school, which was recognized by Decree 73754 of 06 March 1974. In 1975 came the Alagoas Health Foundation Governor Lamenha Son - FUNGLAF - as sponsor of ECMAL, adding to the structure of the Foundation, the Emergency Unit Dr. Armando Lages and Hospital Dr. José Carneiro. "In September 1995 the Secretary of State for Education of Alagoas, under the decree 820/95, approves the creation of Physiotherapy courses, Speech Therapy and Occupational Therapy, recognized through the Ordinance No. 116/2002; No. 21/2003 and No. 20/2003. With the extinction of FUNGLAF in 2000, came the University Foundation of Health Sciences of Alagoas - UNCISAL, with the support of agencies Hospitals School José Carneiro, Portugal Ramalho, Dr. Hélvio Auto, Maternity Hospital Santa Monica and the Center Development of Human Resources in Health of Alagoas, today School Health Technical Professor Valeria Time (Etsal). In 2003 UNCISAL is restructured by Law No. 6351 and is now comprised of Colleges, Hospitals and Health Technical School Professor Valeria Time."
