Akashi Onishi and was appointed president of this university on April 1st. At this time, when society expects Toyohashi University of Technology (TUT) to accomplish remarkable achievements, I feel great honor in having become president, and at the same time am sobered by the heavy responsibility this role entails.
The most important point in realizing these objectives is to return to the original point of universities being a seat of learning and research to deepen one's specialization, and on this basis to produce an environment where people are free to discuss and pursue their research openly as they desire, enabling the joys of both learning and research to be cherished. To realize this, both the faculty and the staff, and the undergraduate and graduate students, must work together to create an intellectually active campus. Our efforts will have the achievement of this campus as their goal.
