Thai Nguyen University (TNU) was established on April 4th 1994 by virtue of the Decree No. 31/ CP of the Prime Minister on the basis of reorganizing and merging local universities in Thai Nguyen Province Thai Nguyen University is located in Thai Nguyen City of the Northern Midland and Mountainous region – a critically strategic region for socio-economic, national security, public security, foreign affairs and environmental ecosystem of the country with potentials and advantages to develop agriculture, forestry, hydroelectric power, mining, tourism and border economics. The Northern Midland and Mountainous Region has many ethnic minorities living in harmony for a long tradition, in which ethnic minorities are accounted for 54.68% - the highest rate in the country with their own cultural identities. This region has many historical, cultural, revolutionary bases and outstanding scenes. In terms of administration, the region includes 16 provinces, namely Ha Giang, Cao Bang, Lao Cai, Bac Kan, Lang Son, Tuyen Quang, Yen Bai, Thai Nguyen, Phu Tho, Bac Giang, Quang Ninh, Lai Chau, Dien Bien, Son La, Hoa Binh and Vinh Phuc, with approximately 13 million people in population and 10 million hectares in area (account for 30.7% of the total country area).
