Suraj Singh Memorial College, Ranchi (A constituent unit of Ranchi University, Ranchi) was humbly started in the year 1972 by a few philanthropic and dedicated people of Ranchi. The college was inaugurated by the then Chief Minister of Bihar Sri Kedar Pandey, with initial Intermediate Arts and Science teaching. The commerce teaching was added latter on at intermediate level and in subsequent years the college management was given permission to start Degree teaching with Honours level in all the three faculties viz Science, Arts and Commerce. Latter the college, management was taken over by the Ranchi University, Ranchi and the college was made a constituent unit of Ranchi University Ranchi. The College is situated in a magnificent, beautiful and picturesque Ranchi-Kanke-Patratu Highway. The college premise is at a distance of about 6 Km from Albert Ekka Chaowk (Main Road, Ranchi) and about 3 Km from Kishori Singh Yadav Chowk (near Upper Bazar, Ranchi). The college building was donated by the family of Late Suraj Singh. The college has, presently, more than ten thousand students on roll, imparting education in all the three faculties (Science, Arts and Commerce) up to Three Years Degree Course upto Honours level to the students belonging to economically and socially backward communities of Jharkhand. S S Memorial College is not only committed to creation, preservation, communication an application of knowledge as well as excellence in teaching and scholarly activities but also create responsible citizens of India. Its mission is to serve and lift up the economically, socially and educationally backward section of the society. The aim of the college is to impart quality teaching in facilities of Science, Arts and Commerce from (Inter to Degree levels). Presently, the College is headed by the Principal Prof (Dr) Ranjit Singh, who is Ph D and D Lit. with a contingent of 43 qualified teachers, out of which 27 teachers are holding Ph D and a few are actively engaged in doctoral and post doctoral researches.
