St Francis Methodist School was founded by her first Principal, Mrs Harriet T Doraisamy in 1960. She had previously taught Mathematics at Raffles Girls’ School (RGS) and Methodist Girls’ School and had been approached by neighbours in rural Singapore to help their daughters prepare for the Cambridge Examinations.
ewly widowed, Mrs Doraisamy placed her energies in bringing up her three young children and setting up a new school with a clear and God-directed purpose of providing “a sound moral and all-rounded academic education, focusing always on God and directing them to Him.” She loved all her students and the school meant a lot to her. When she retired in 1995, she gave the school license to The Methodist Church in Singapore, “…where I felt she rightfully belonged” trusting that the Church will continue with the God-centred purpose
