Southern Methodist University (SMU) is a private research university in Dallas, University Park, and Highland Park. Founded in 1911 by the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, SMU operates satellite campuses in Plano, Texas, and Taos, New Mexico. SMU was established as the unsuccessful attempt to relocate Southwestern University from Georgetown, Texas, to either Fort Worth or Dallas. International study is offered through 150 programs in 50 countries, in addition to research and service projects abroad.
