The University established School of Future Studies and Planning as its University Teaching Department (UTD) in 1990 with an objective to offer academic and research programmes in interdisciplinary areas. Accordingly the School started M.Tech. programme in Future Studies and Planning in the year 1990 with financial support from University Grants Commission, New Delhi. The M.Tech. programme was designed as per the model curriculum developed jointly by University Grants Commission and the Department of Science and Technology (Govt. of India) with an emphasis on scientific study of future. Later in 2005, the School started another AICTE approved M.Tech. programme in Systems Management. The School also offers Ph.D. programme in interdisciplinary areas including Systems Engineering, Environmental Management, Technology Forecasting and Assessment, System Dynamics, Mathematical Modelling and Simulation, Econometrics, Science Communication, etc. The academic programmes at the School are designed to educate foresight experts who help organisations to harness future opportunities and avoid unnecessary risks.
