On 21 September 1925, it was placed the first stone of what is now one of the longest standing institutions and prestige of the Chilean higher education. That day was born the Catholic University of Valparaiso. The beginnings of our university were made possible by the generosity of Dona Isabel Caceres Brown, Buenos Aires lady with her daughters, Isabel Brown Ladies Brunet and Maria Teresa Brown Ariztía stand out for their importance in the history of Valparaiso.
Since the beginning of their academic activities in March 1928, the Catholic University of Valparaiso has developed an uninterrupted academic work, research and extension, directing their work to the cultivation of the arts, science and knowledge, always under the motto bequeathed by our Founders: Faith and Work. Linked to the Church through the Diocese of Valparaiso, the University has had eight major foreign ministers. Notably, three of them, Archbishop Raul Silva Henriquez, Monsignor Jorge Medina Estévez and Monsignor Francisco Javier Errazuriz, have been invested Cardinals. In 2003, the University received a great recognition by the Holy See to be conferred the title of Pontifical.
