Chinese Opera Institute was established in January 28, 1950, under the former Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Culture, originally called experimental drama school drama Bureau, in January 1955 officially named Chinese Opera School. November 1973 incorporated by the Ministry of Culture, ""five seven Central University of the Arts"", later renamed ""five seven Central University of the Arts drama school."" February 1977 formally resumed Chinese drama school establishment. In 1978 the State Council approved 10 upgraded to Chinese Opera Institute, and accepted its first undergraduate, opened a new chapter in Chinese opera from art education. 2000 transferred Beijing, the national implementation of the Ministry of Culture and the Beijing municipal government to build the college, Beijing-based management system.
College first president was one of the founders of modern drama in China Mr. Tian Han, Wang Yaoqing, Yan Yong, Xiao Changhua, history Ruoxu, by Wang, Yu Lin, Zhu phase, Zhou Yude, Du Changsheng and so has any school (yard) long. School motto is ""smashing and the future."" College currently offers opera department, the Department of Performing, Directing, Music Department, Department of drama, stage design, new media art department, the Department of International Cultural Exchange, Department of Basic School in 10 teaching units, the ""Drama and Film Studies """" Music and dance ""two-level discipline master,"" art theory ""a secondary master disciplines, 15 undergraduate majors and 27 professional direction. Theatre & Opera as key disciplines in Beijing, and the inclusion of Beijing's cultural and artistic talents training base construction projects. Beijing Opera is the traditional advantages of a professional professional schools, as well as national and specialty levels in Beijing."
