Chartered November 1, 1956 as a senior, coeducational liberal arts college. Was established as a joint venture by the citizens of Fayetteville/Cumberland County and the North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church. Methodist College opened to students in the fall of 1960. In the Fall of 2006, in conjunction with the institution's 50th anniversary celebration, Methodist College officially became Methodist University. Methodist University, known until 2006 as Methodist College, is a private university that is historically related to the North Carolina Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church and is located in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Methodist University offers over 80 majors and concentrations in five undergraduate schools and four graduate programs.
