anda University of International Studies (KUIS), founded in 1987, is a private university dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in international studies, particularly in the areas of foreign languages, intercultural communication, Japanese culture, linguistics, and international studies. In 2003 it was awarded the "Good Practice Award" for innovation in education by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science & Technology. There are four departments on campus:English, Asian Languages (Chinese, Korean, Indonesian, Vietnamese, and Thai), Spanish and Portuguese, and International Communication. The university also has a Graduate School Program and a Japanese Language and Culture Program for foreign students. About 3700 students are enrolled in the various courses.
