The Institute of Peace, is a university, in accordance with the provisions of paragraph b of Article 16 of Law 30 of 1992, created by Decree 0331 ordenanzal 19 November 1987. It is a public institution of higher education, academic, departmental order with legal, administrative autonomy and independent assets, attached to the Government of the Department of Santander and with its headquarters in the city of Barrancabermeja. The felt need expressed by a socially and economically disadvantaged population, which fed their voices and cries from the opportunities for citizen participation, demanding solution to multiple problems caused by the lack of efficient public services and demand urgently creating an institution of public higher education for the training of high school graduates from those in the city of Barrancabermeja educational institutions through civic and social movements in the late 80s, the birth of UNIPAZ reason.
