The Polytechnic Institute of Setubal (IPS) is a public institution of higher education which fall within the polytechnic subsystem. IPS arises in the context of the establishment in Portugal of the new network of higher polytechnic education in 1979, initially integrating the two schools located in Setúbal; the School of Technology (ESTSetúbal) and the School of Education (ESE).

Currently, the IPS includes, in addition to these, three Schools: School of Business Administration (ESCE), the Barreiro School of Technology (ESTBarreiro) and the School of Health (ESS). The activities of the five Schools are coordinated by the Central Services.
