IADE arrived in 2012 to a new stage in its long journey of more than four decades and becomes an University. It is an achievement that results from the capacity of creation, transmission and dissemination of culture, knowledge, science and technology, through education and research.IADE has been a laboratory of creativity, talent and leadership recognized generally throughout society.
Pioneering school of Design in Portugal, IADE created in 1969 the course "Interior Design and General Equipment" performed according to the Arts & Crafts model, Anglo-Saxonic and from schools as the Scuola Politecnica di Design, Milan. Lasting three years, just as the current 1st cycle courses and organized in "broadband".In parallel, the Institute began immediately to internationalize in it's first years of life. Indeed, António Quadros, the ideologue of IADE, invited teachers of recognized merit in the field of design, such as John David Bear, Stephanie d'Orey, Claude Ternat, Tomás Maldonado, Bruno Munari, Elio Cenci or Attilio Marcoli, and also national references at the time, such as Lima de Freitas, Manuel Lapa, Costa Martins, Manuel da Costa Cabral, Rafael Calado, António Pedro, David Mourão Ferreira, António Quadros himself, among others, contributed to the construction of this portuguese School of Design.
