What can a computer game tell us about a climate change? What do Japanese Manga and robots have in common? What is the relationship between human affection and the making of mobile phones? Humanistic and social science research seeks to understand how humans develop and organize their social worlds through cultural and technological means in order to cope with societal challenges.
Recognising the value of a multi-dimensional education for success in every field of endeavor, Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences (HASS) provides SUTD undergraduates with grounding in the methods of social and cultural inquiry, in rigorous evaluation of truth claims and in informed decision-making that reflects thousands of years of human experience. By offering learning experiences that integrate the disciplines of the humanities, arts and social sciences with SUTD’s engineering and architecture pillars, HASS encourages students to acquire the capacity for self-reflection and critical thinking in order to nurture leaders deeply aware of the social role and impacts of innovations in the fields of technology and design.
