The Nursing School Dr. Joseph Timothy Montalvão Machado (ESEDJTMM), located in Chaves County is an institution recognized of public interest by Decree-Law No. 99/96 of 19 July, is part of the Higher Private and Cooperative Education, regulated by Decree-Law No. 16/94 of 22 January. It was created in 1993 by the Promotion Association of the Keys in Nursing Education (APEEC), nonprofit institution made ​​up of the Municipalities of Alto Tâmega and Barroso and the respective Hospitals of Mercy. To achieve its goals, the school was endowed by APEEC of their own statutes. Having conducted its review in accordance with paragraph l of Article 172 of Law No 62/2007 of 10 September, subject to ministerial approval, approved and published in the II Series of the State Gazette nº 196 - 09 October 2009. Its creation of the need to create necessary synergies for the development of education and the nursing profession in the region and to respond to growing student population that wanted to enter in higher education. In response to these goals, the school favored creating a course, whose value and necessity be felt either in the region or in the country.
