The Nursing School of Lisbon, also known by its initials, ESEL, results from the merger of four universities in Lisbon. These being the Nursing School of Artur Ravara (adjacent to the College of Health Technology of Lisbon), the Calouste Gulbenkian Nursing School of Lisbon (the Hospital de Santa Maria), the Nursing School of Francisco Gentil ( in the Portuguese Oncology Institute) and the Nursing School of Maria Fernanda Resende (in the Hospital Júlio de Matos). This merger became official on February 27, 2007.
