The Universidad de Oriente "UNIVO" was founded on the initiative by a group of visionary entrepreneurs San Miguel, on October 30, 1981, as an alternative to higher education community in the eastern part of the country; starting their academic work on February 3, 1982, with a population of 554 students. University East is an institution of higher education that develops the functions of teaching, research and outreach program focused on training professionals with human sensitivity and sound ethical principles capable of contributing to social, economic and cultural development of locale.
