Established in 1966 by the Maine State Legislature, under the authority of the State Board of Education, EMCC was originally known as Eastern Maine Vocational Technical Institute (EMVTI). The college was moved in 1968 from temporary quarters in downtown Bangor to its present campus on Hogan Road. Eastern Maine Community College is a two-year college specializing in technical, career and transfer education. Students feel comfortable and at home in this environment in which personal attention is given to each of the 2,550 students enrolled in programs or taking courses.
