Blackburn College is named for the Reverend Gideon Blackburn, D.D., a Presbyterian minister and former president of Centre College in Kentucky. Like many founders of American colleges, Dr. Blackburn sought to establish an institution to train young men for the ministry. Blackburn College is the largest provider of higher education for a college in the UK* and in 2013 celebrated providing education and training for 125 years. Each year Blackburn College provides learning opportunities to 16,000 students at all levels, 3,000 of whom are Higher Education students.
