To promote technical education in this backward area, adjoining Haryana, Govt. of Punjab initially established it as a Government Polytechnic College, Lehragaga in 1996. Later on, in 2005, under the dynamic leadership of then Technical Education minister Mrs. Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, this Institute was given an autonomous status and launched as a unique Pb Govt established Institute to run Diploma and Degree level programs in Engineering and renamed as Baba Hira Singh Bhattal Institute of Engg & Technology, Lehragaga. The Institute derives its name from the great revolutionary during the freedom struggle of India, the renowned freedom fighter of "Parja Mandal Movement" Baba Hira Singh Ji Bhattal. The institute cherishes the same desire of selfless and committed service towards the motherland by imparting quality technical education to the masses in a non-profitable manner.
