Grasping the antique concept of 'agora' as a square, an assembly, a well-known place where the free men gathered, we established in Zagreb, in the war year of 1992, the Society for intellectual services of AGORA, with the aim to transmit and gain new knowledge, skills, abilities and spiritual promotions. The new age, which created and in which the 'middle-European' Croatia was being created, the path forwards the building of new competences for all the citizens: the knowledge of foreign languages, primarily European ones; Standard computer literacy; entrepreneurial knowledge and skills; the ability of communication on the market; the ability of self-realization, tolerance and coexistence, as well as citizens' responsibility. All that was the framework in which the comprehensive concept of Open University AGORA was built.
