The Agnel Ashram Fathers felt for a long time that the expertise they gained in the field of Technical Education at Mumbai, be utilised for the benefit of the youth of Goa. Plans bore fruit on the 4th June 1979 when Hon. Shri H.M. Patel, the then Union Home Minister laid the foundation stone of Agnel Ashram branch at Verna, Goa. Agnel Polytechnic was the first Institute to be established by Agnel Fathers at Goa in 1981. It was initially affiliated to Board of Technical Examinations, Mumbai. The Polytechnic was started with Diploma in Production Engineering(now Mechanical), then ConstructionEngineering(1983) and then Automobile Engineering(1985). All the three programmes are of 4year duration semester system, sandwitched pattern that is with inplant training in Industries in between the semesters. This was done in an attempt to provide ready to employ technicians to the industry. The Computer Engineering programme was started with the assistance of Department of Electronics, Government of India, in 1987, and it was the first programme in Computer Hardware to start in Maharashtra and Goa. The programmes in Electronics and Communication, Electronics Engg., and Medical Electronics have been started under prestigious project of upgrading Technical Education in India under World Bank Aided project, through Governments of Goa and India. Our Polytechnic being part of this project which was started in 1995, had a lot of improvement taking place besides the large expansion in infra-structural facilities. This includes setting up of a Women's Wing with two pro grammes exclusively for girl student. They are Electronics & Communication and Medical Electronics .
