How to study smart

When you are a student who really wants to study hard and score good, you always think what you are currently doing isn’t enough. You have to do assignments, projects and have many tests to study for.

Because of this load, you usually are stressed, exhausted and burning out.  Wouldn’t it be amazing if someone could tell you not what to study, but HOW to study?

The main aim of education isn’t always to get straight A’s or be on the top.

Learning how to learn is a vital life skill.

Here are some tips to help you study smarter:

  • Learning the same information in a variety of ways could help you lessen your burden. Learning in multiple ways will help you to get more information out of the material. The more areas of the brain that are activated, the more likely you are to understand and retain the information. Each time you review the topic, use a different source or method to learn it faster.

  • Study multiple subjects each day, instead of focusing just on one or two subjects. You are likely to confuse similar information if you study a lot of the same subject in one day. So, if you really want to study smart, divide your time for multiple subjects. Each time you study something different, your brain will be having more time to consolidate your learning. Plus, no end moment cramming leftover syllabi!

  • Instead of cramming, you should review the information periodically. Periodically reviewing your course is important if you want your memory to change from short-term memory to long-term memory. This will help you remember all the information easily, especially during exam time. A review at regular intervals will help you retain information in the long run.

  • Multi-tasking is a huge disadvantage; it makes you less productive and more distracted. Effective students are the ones who only focus on just one thing at a time.  Studying while watching TV or texting not only keeps you unfocused but is almost twice time-consuming.

  • Simplifying, summarizing, and compressing the information- your learning efficiency will increase. Using mnemonic devices whenever possible will help you study smarter. You can also summarize the information into a comparison table, diagram or mind map. This will help you to learn the information faster.

Studying hard will get you good marks, but studying smart will get you good marks, more productivity, and much less stress.
